Our first ever open studio night was also the first ever Culture Night event in Duleek. The event was opened by Senator Sharon Keoghan, and we were delighted that the visitor numbers were double our expectations. It was a vibrant experience with Shane giving a tour, telling the stories behind his products and giving an idea about the artistic process involved in his art and design operation.
Meath born Holland relocated his studio from Dublin to Duleek in 2006. Whilst his showrooms
are usually open by appointment this was the first time that he opened his studio to the public. Shane’s work is a combination of his training as an industrial designer, which relates to lighting, furniture and interiors products, and his keen interest in upcycling, recycling and using pre-found objects. Shane’s work has been described as ‘eco art’, where every day found objects from the sea or aviation objects from industry recyclers are reimagined into striking sculptures and art pieces.
Culture Night is an excellent opportunity to visit artists within their own community and to see how they go about their business. Artists also get the benefit of getting feedback from clients and possible sale opportunities, so this is a win, win.
We would like to thank all who helped out on the night and the sponsorship provided by the Meath Arts Office.
